We make special sugar cookies each year for the kid’s lunches. They are made in the shapes of A’s, a school house, buses, and an apple. The kids get so excited about making these and it helps build excitment for the upcoming school year. We also shop during tax free weekend because this saves us so much money. The kids look forward to getting new backpacks each year also.

I prepare my kids for the new school year by being enthusiastic about all the back to school things like shopping for clothes and lunchboxes and school supplies. Enthusiasm is infectious, and if I show them by example how much importance I place on their education, and speak of all the fun they’ll have, they are ready as anything to start school each year!

One idea to prepare kids is to give them encouragement every day before they get on the bus. Let them know you have faith in them.

I loved the idea to melt down used and broken crayons to get different and fun shapes ! Also we always just start back getting to bed earlier than we did in the summer about two weeks before school actually starts–this way it is not so hard to begin the getting up early process for the first new school days! Thanks,A.Anderson

One idea I would like to share that we use each year, is the week before school starts, we use the school schedule. This helps the children get acclimated to going to be early and getting up early, and saves us a ton of hassle the first week of school (not to mention the children are not sleepy those first few days).

regardless of age, everyone loves crayons, even the smell! Before school starts get the kids back into a routine (going to be and waking up by specific times). Make sure you get as many school supplys as you can over the summer so your not rushing out the first night. Our school district sends out lists created by each teacher.

The weekend before school starts we always bake cookies.
My girls LOVE to do that.
And we go either to a movie, bowling or out for pizza.
We let them choose.
This has been our tradition for several years.
It’s a part of going back to school for me. And they love it!

Some things that will help kids get ready for the school year: We always got back into the bed times and get up times for school a week before school started. This helped so they were already into that routine. We also made sure that they had everything they needed for school (including lunches). Then there was no last minute rush to pick up things.

I think a great way to prepare kids for the new school year is to include them in your shopping. Let them pick out a few things that they like for school supplies, lunch box, backpack, clothes, etc. Also, to help them adjust, make sure you start them on a school bedtime schedule at least 1-2 weeks before school starts.

I think a great way to get ready for back to school is to start shopping early so your not slammed with the costs of new clothes school supplies etc… all at the last minute. Sure, you find good deals when all the sales start but you also have to fight the crowds since everyone is also doing the same thing. Ive already got some of my children s school supplies and clothes bought and ready for them and schools not set to start for a month!

I personally think that if your child is for example starting 2nd grade, buy some 2nd grade level books or workbooks during the summer, and maybe a couple of days a week, spend an hour preparing them. Mt cousin is a teacher, and most kids start the school year completely unprepared and lacking in skills.
