Buy school supplies when they are on sale-usually before school-stock up for the whole year.

My four daughters always look forward to a special after school snack picnic on the first and last days of school. I usually bring hot Pillsbury brownies with melted chocolate chips on top and flasks of ice cold milk. We head for the school playground or park and I listen to all of the tales of the first (or last) day of school for each of them. I have been doing this since my oldest daughter went to preschool and it is something they look forward to every year. It is a nice way to unwind and relax after an eventful first day or full year.

I make back to school fun by shopping with my kids. They look forward to wearing new clothes for the first week at least. I try to prepare them to look well which to me boosts the self-esteem of an individual.

We look forward to the back to school ice cream social every year! The kids get to see all of their friends and their favorite teachers, too.

We enjoy shopping for all the great deals, from 1 penny to 1 dollar and we stock up BIG! After all the shopping is done, it’s time to start resetting internal clocks by going to bed earlier and getting up earlier, too. Not as much fun, but definitely worth the effort when school starts.

I stock up on school supplies when the local store has a B1/G2 Free sale. Then my kids can “shop” from the stockpile at home for their supplies. They feel like they are getting to do the shopping themselves. The extras can be donated to Back to School supply charity drives. Kids get just as excited giving supplies to others.

We get everything ready the night before, she gets to choose her clothes, and what she wants for lunch. It makes it so much smoother in the money.

Her favorite part of the day is the bus ride.

I always start the year out with a family meeting. We talk about what their teachers expect from them, what I expect from them, and what they hope to learn this year. One problem I always have with them is when they forget to go through their paperwork. I tell them that this is their responsibility and they always say it is mine:(

My kids love to shop for school supplies. I like to shop after school starts to get bargains for the next year. For about the first two weeks I sit with them and let them tell me all about their day. After that we have a round table discussion at the dinner table about everyone’s day.
