Top 5 Holiday Activities To Do With Your Kids

by Kitty on November 24, 2009

Christmas has to be my favorite time of the year. I would love to go to Santa's Workshop someday, I can't remember where it is right now (I think Finland), they have a real workshop, reindeer and a post office. It looked amazing! Anyway, we all have a favorite activity we like to do with your kids, I am sure some of you have quite a few. TwitterMoms and Nickelodeon asked a blogging question as part of the Dora Christmas Carol Contest, name the top 5 holiday activities you do with your kids!

That's easy, I thought, but when I sat down to write so much came to mind. I finally narrowed it down to my Fave 5 and here they are (in no particular order):

  1. Bake holiday cookies - I consider myself to be an excellent baker. One of my favorite things around the holidays is to bake with the kids. I used to bake 10 or 12 dozen just to have around the house for company. I would take orders of family favorites - Gingerbread cookies are always high on the list.
  2. Shop for Each Other - My kids save most of their money and they love to go out shopping and buy a little something for each other and their absolutely wonderful parents (who have been really good this year, I might add).
  3. Go On a Parade of Lights Tour - Now this is usually a private tour we take in the car, driving to those neighborhoods you hear about in conversation. We have seen some beautiful displays, complete with holiday music and show times!
  4. Decorate the tree and House - Always a favorite, the kids help put up the tree, I do the lights and then they hang the ornaments. I don't rearrange the tree when they are done, I think it's hilarious when you end up with 20 ornaments on the same branch!
  5. Holiday Shows on TV - It brings back childhood memories for me. TV seemed to watched far less when I was a kid so when we were allowed to watch these holiday specials it was really an event. I still love to sit and watch Rudulph and Frosty (and I still tear up when Frosty melts!)

Thank you to Twittermoms for helping me take a moment out of my busy, busy life to remember all the good things and why I love the holidays so much. It's really about family and the time we take to do activities together and build lasting memories!
