Ok, so if you are new to coupon clipping and ad matching, you may be looking at some of our mommy blogs and wondering what the heck all the abbreviations stand for. Believe me, sometimes I have to think about it for a minute. It saves time to abbreviate the commonly used words when one is typing up all these great deals!
To get you started with deciphering Coupon Abbreviation Lingo, I am going to list all of the ones that I know. Or at least, I think I know what they mean. If you have more, please feel free to leave a comment and I will add it to the list.
Sunday Newspaper Insert Abbreviations:
PG = Procter and Gamble
RP = Red Plum
SS = SmartSource
V = Valassis
Common Coupon Abbreviations and Terms:
B1G1 = Buy One Get One Free
BOGO = Buy One Get One Free
BRU = Babies R Us
BTFE = Box Tops for Education
C/D = Complete Deal
C/O = Cents Off Coupon
CRT = Cash Register Tape
Catalina = Machine at register that prints out coupons
ECB = Extra Care Bucks (CVS Lingo)
ESC = Easy Saver Coupon (Walgreens Lingo)
ESR = Easy Saver Rebate (Walgreens Lingo)
FAR = Free After Rebate
Filler = This is an item that is purchased to achieve a minimum purchase amount or use a bigger purchase requirement
IVC = Instant Value Coupon
Insert = These are the coupons from the Sunday paper
LSASE = Long self addressed stamped envelope
LP = List Price of an item
MC = Manufacturer's coupon
MFG = Manufacturer
MFR = Manufacturer
MIR = Mail In Rebate
MQ = Manufacturer's coupon
NED = No Expiration Date
OOP = Out of Pocket
Overage or Ovg. = Refers to what is considered a profit when you stack coupons or coupons w/ rebates, etc.
Peelie = A coupon that you peel off the package
POP = Proof of Purchase
Q or Qs = Coupon or Coupons
RC = Raincheck
RR = Register Reward (Walgreens Lingo)
SASE = Self Addressed Stamped Envelope
SCR = single Check Rebate (Rite Aid Lingo)
SMP = Specially Marked Packages
Stacking: Using a store coupon and manufacturer's coupon together on one purchase to increase savings.
TMF = Try Me Free - This is usually a mail in rebate for the purchase price paid
TRU = Toys R Us
UPC = Universal Product Code
YMMV = Your mileage may vary, different at different stores
WAGS = Walgreens Drugstore (This is a chain store)
WSL = While Supplies Last
WYB = When you Buy
