Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets Review
"Oh Shoot!" (or insert other words), I forgot the fabric softener!! How many times has that happened to you? It happens to me all the time, I don't know why I can't seem to remember.
Recently, I was able to try New Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets which I had heard of but didn't actually know what they did. Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets make doing your laundry simple. Everything is in one little sheet: concentrated detergent, softener and anti-static.

Just toss the laundry sheet in the washer (either standard or high-efficiency) and the blue portion of the sheet releases during the wash cycle.

Next, just transfer, the clothes and the laundry sheet to the dryer. The color stripe is heat activated so when the dryer heats up it softens the clothes and removes static. Wow!!

I tried these and I LOVED the way they smelled and definitely will be purchasing again in the future. They are available at Mass, Grocery and Drug retailers nationwide. The suggested retail price of a 20 sheet Starter Kit (which includes a dispenser) and the 24 sheet Refill Pack is between $5.99-$7.49.
If you would like to try Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets, here's a printable coupon!
UPDATE 08/05/09: I just wanted to let everyone know that after using this product for several months, I am now noticing spots on some dark clothing items. At first I thought they were just spots I missed, but when they started appearing in weird spots, I knew it must be what everyone has been commenting about. This did not happen when I first tried them, but I will definitely be letting Purex know!
Response from Purex:
Spotting
If I have spots from using, what happened?
Similar to other softeners like liquid fabric softeners or dryer sheets, spotting can occur when the fabric softener ingredients are unevenly distributed on fabric. Spotting is usually temporary, especially if the spots are treated properly.
It should be noted that with certain fabric materials, including polyesters or other synthetic materials, spotting is more likely to occur. These fabric materials tend to attract more of the fabric softener ingredients than natural fibers - like cotton.
We recommend the following to reduce spotting:
- Always check your garment care tag for any special requirements related to fabric softener use.
- Do not over fill your dryer with laundry.
- Use medium heat rather than high heat settings.
- Use the auto dry setting vs. timed dry.
- Using auto dry will also save energy and ensure your laundry is not over dried.
- In some situations, large laundry items, like bed sheets, can create an environment prone to spotting since large laundry can rap around the laundry sheet trapping it from moving freely in the dryer.
How do I remove spots?
If spotting occurs, rub with a mild bar soap, rinse and rewash with warm water.
How do I get the most out of the softening benefit in the dryer with a Laundry Sheet?
The load size and dryer setting have an impact on the unique dryer stripe. We recommend using Purex Complete 3 in 1 Laundry Sheets with larger loads and at the medium heat temperature setting vs high heat. We also recommend using on the auto dry, instead of timed dry, dryer setting.

I tried the Purex 3 in 1 and I wouldn’t recommend them! I loved the idea of not having all those bottles of other things all over, one sheet does it all. I found myself using extra fabric softener and dryer sheets. I even used a little more laundry detergent! I love using Purex, I use the Purex Natural Elements right now. I have used Purex for years and will continue to do so but I really really wouldn’t recommend using these. I tried to post my experience on the Purex site and they wouldn’t allow it!

@Lydia: Did you use it in a front loading HE washer? You have to use 2, according to the package, which is what I had to do because I fill that thing to the gills. Because of that, I’m probably not going to purchase these again – one package will only do 10 loads @ $4+ where as I can get approx. 100 loads out of a large bottle of detergent @ $11 (All Small and Mighty) and approx. 100 loads of softener for $6 (Snuggle). It’s a great concept, but way too expensive/too many trips to the store in the long run if you have an HE.
I will definitely be buying these when going on vacation however! You can pack it in your suitcase without worrying about leakage and they don’t take up much space at all!

Love the smell, but the fabric softener left oily/waxy spots on my dress shirts. Took two washings in Tide and a de-greaser to get those out. The 3-in-1’s seem to be fine for anything like whites that you would wash in hot water, but keep them away from anything dark that isn’t a knit and definitely not for use with microfiber.
Also, not convinced that there is enough detergent in these to do the job. If I need to use 2 in my HE front loader I am spending WAY too much money on something that isn’t even environmentally friendly.

Have used Purex liquid in the past with good results. But when I tried the 3 in 1 sheets on two loads I got greasy looking spots all over my shirts that I wear to work and on my bed sheets. The company suggests scrubbing the spots with a white bar soap and then re-washing the clothes…how’s that for quick, easy and convenient? WILL NOT BUY THESE AGAIN.

It looks like many of you are experiencing problems with the Purex laundry sheets. That’s crazy! I am still using them, and I am going to keep an eye out for the greasy spots you are talking about. I have an OLD washing machine and it only washes on cold so I don’t know if that is why I haven’t seen the spots or not. Many people complained they had to use 2 sheets on the newer washing machines which was also a negative. I will keep you posted on whether or not the spots appear in my laundry as I just purchased 2 more boxes!

I recently purchased the 3 in 1 sheets and was so excited to use them….until I pulled my clothes out of the dryer. My dark loads were covered in greasy looking spots. At first I figured it was something else, but after 4 loads (yep, I’m a quick learner) everything was covered in greasy spots. So much for purex 3 in 1. I love the concept though….I’m now off to re wash everything.

I am happy to see that I am not the only one getting spots on my clothes from these things! I have an older washer and use warm/cold setting. I had to use a stain pre-treater then rewash. That’s NOT convenient! They need to figure out what’s going on and redo the formula or something!

Grease all over my new LL Bean dress shirts from the Purex 3 in 1. Does anyone have success in getting these grease stains out. I am pissed.

Hi Joe,
I wrote to them and have edited the post with the response from Purex on how people can remove the stains. Check it out – I hope it works!

The “fix” for the spots did not work completely for me — one of my shirts that got spots is wearable only because the spots are mostly below the waistline and I tuck the tails in. The other shirt was thrown in the rag pile after harvesting the buttons. Thanks Purex.

Horrible, spots all over my cotton shirts. Purex needs to recall these.

Won’t buy these again, getting skin rashes never seen before. Rewashing all undergarments and sheets with other brands.

I was thrilled when Purex came out with these sheets. They worked beautifully when they first came out. I use the Purex Pure (the unscented ones) in a newer model standard top loading machine. No problems at all for a few months.
The last batch of sheets I got left the oily stains on my clothes. Mostly blue items. Light blue LL Bean dress shirt, dark blue LL Bean pima cotton shirt and now my dark blue cotton pants. Did you change the formula from the original batch?? Seriously rethinking future purchases.

I can’t comment on how well these things work, but I can warn you that they can get into the pump and button trap on front loading and top loading machines. I am a technician who has been swamped with services calls to remove them. Could add up to alot of money more than the cost of the product!
