What to Buy (and What Not to Buy) in July

Posted on by

It’s July already and that means a new month to check out the discounts! Each month gives way to a new sale cycle and sometimes a new season! Summer is in full swing right now but we are also gearing up for the beginning of school and stocking up for the cold months that will come! It’s like Christmas in July with all of the savings! And you may just want to take advantage of the sales to stock up your Christmas closet to make the Holidays that much easier to shop for! In addition, many states will have their annual Tax Free Holiday that will hit sometime in mid July. Be sure to search for your state’s tax free shopping day! Take a look at this list so that you know what to grab this month and what to skip!

What To Buy:

Back To School Supplies – I have seen many years now that if I don’t grab the school supply list and head out to check off each item in July, many of the deals are gone. And many of the items are sold out! You will feel terrible paying full price for those darn dry erase markers and colored pencils when you could have snagged them for up to 50% off! Start early!

Jeans – This is a great time to buy denim as this sale goes hand in hand with the back to school rush.

Home Decor – Save up to 65% Off! Check for deep discounts on outdoor furniture and accessories as these are being priced to sell to get ready for the next season of items.

Home Paint – Looking to redecorate? Head to Lowe’s Or Home Depot to snag a great sale. I have also seen a few paint rebates out there this time of year so definitely keep your eyes peeled!

Hand Bags – In the market for a new cute purse? Now is the time to buy! You can find some top designer brands for up to 50% off! Score!

Video Games – Do you have a gamer at home? Now is the time to replenish their stock!

Jewelry – Need some new bling? Now is the time to buy! Up to 15% off from stores like Macy’s and Zales!

Ice Cream – Did you know it is National Ice Cream Month!? Yes! This means that your local grocery stores are more likely to have a great sale on some of your favorite frozen treats. Also, I have seen a huge increase in the amount of coupons available for all of the popular brands. Be sure to print them out and head to the store so that you can snag the biggest savings!

Summer Clothing – Of Course when we hit the middle to end of a season, the stores are eager to discount and make room for new inventory. If you have kids you may want to buy next years clothes and purchase items a couple of sizes up! You will thank yourself come next spring!

Outdoor and Camping Gear – Check for great deals on bikes, tents and fishing equipment. The biggest discounts on these items will be in stores like Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shops.

Amazon Items On Amazon Prime Day!
This sale is relatively new for Amazon and promises to offer some huge discounts for those who are Prime Members. This year it lands on July 12th. If not a Prime Member, sign up now so that you can have access to the best deals! It’s like Black Friday in July!

Air Conditioners and Fans – Has your cooling system broken down? Don’t worry, you are likely to find the best deals right now as they will be clearing the shelves of these items to make way for space heaters.

Do Not Buy:

Xbox One – There is a new Xbox set to be released in August so if in the market for a great deal on the Xbox gaming system, wait until August to snatch up the lowest prices for the Xbox One. It has gone as low as $259 in the past, and included a bundle of a game or two. So be sure to look for an even lower price on your way into the fall months!

Laptops – Wait another month for deeper back to school sales, OR hold out for Black Friday as you can often find a great deal then as well.

Older Apple Products – Apple is set to release new operating systems, but not all older devices will be eligible.

TV’s – The best time to buy a TV is during Black Friday or Early January when we all start getting excited to watch the big game! Be patient and wait for those deals to arrive!
